We are Brett Womack and Rachel Bowman, professional aerialists and creators of Master the Silks, the step-by-step guide to Mastering the Aerial Silks for advanced aerial students!
We are so excited to announce that we have just opened up enrollment for our new online course, a collaboration with flexibility expert Kristina Nekyia from Fit & Bendy;
A safe, efficient and effective step-by-step online flexibility course exclusively for aerialists!
We created an online flexibility course for aerialists because…
Aerial students from all over the world were contacting us, asking for advice on how to increase their aerial-related flexibility in the least amount of time (they have jobs, families, social commitments and aerial training to manage already!)
We reached out to our own personal flexibility coach (the extremely busy and brilliant bendy woman) Kristina Nekyia from Fit & Bendy and begged and pleaded for her to design with us a flexibility course for aerialists that was fun, safe, effective and EXTREMELY time efficient (‘cause we are all so dang busy!)
and The Busy Bendy Aerialist was born!
This is the exact program used by dozens of aerialists who train privately or take class with Kristina and have achieved incredible results.
It does not matter if you have tight ‘aerial’ shoulders, cranky hip-flexors, stiff hamstrings or a rigid lower back, this program, when practiced regularly WILL increase your flexibility EXPONENTIALLY!
The Busy Bendy Aerialist is a step-by-step guide to dramatically increasing aerialists flexibility in the safest, most time-efficient way possible.
BBA Students Will:
Together with Kristina, we have created a course that breaks down ALL of the steps you need to take to dramatically increase your flexibility and mobility as well as improve your line on the Aerial Silks
The tools you need are all here…
How can you apply this ‘system’ to become a bendier aerialist?
You have a choice
You can do it slow, using trial and error; training on your own, traveling too and paying for dozens and dozens of flexibility classes.
Or you can do it quickly and safely using our 5 module online training program…
Choose from 3 quick and effective warm-up sequences to elevate your body temperature and prepare you mentally and physically for your flexibility practice!
Option 1: CIRCLES
(10 minutes)
A gentle, relatively easy warm up for those chilly winter mornings. ‘Circles’ consists of full-body joint circles, spinal rolls and leg swings to gently wake the body up. From here you can either do another warm-up or get right into stretching.
Option 2: The Dancer
(10 minutes)
A medium-energy, full-body warm up consisting of lunges, pliés, relevés, active leg extensions, knee pulses, high planks and balances that will fire up the body and prepare it to stretch.
Option 3: Beast Mode
(10 minutes)
An exhilarating, fast-paced warm-up designed to get you sweating!
In this lesson Kristina will guide you through 2 workouts designed to harness the hidden potential of the hip flexors, ‘free’ your hamstrings, and build your active flexibility to create the ideal, perfect split.
Option 1: Emphasis on Hip Flexors
(20 minutes)
In this workout, Kristina will help you build your opposing muscles with a ‘Downstairs-butt Strengthening Series’ (super important for hip-flexor flexibility and mobility), then stretch out the hip flexors in square lunges with PNF stretching. Then use this new strength and flexibility to get both right and left leg SQUARE splits.
Option 2: Emphasis on Hamstrings
(20 minutes)
Option 2 consists of a series of strengthening/releasing exercises such as knee pulses, nerve stretches and active flexibility circles. Some of these exercises utilize a Yoga Strap, but don’t worry if you don’t have one you can use a scarf, long sock, dog leash, or even your boyfriend’s old tie!
In this lesson, Kristina will guide you through two workouts designed to lengthen and liberate your straddle while giving you the strength to be able to make those shapes while defying gravity!
Option 1: Slider Series
(20 minutes)
For this middle splits workout you will need to get your hands on a pair of sliders or long songs so that your feet can slide along the floor with ease as you activate your straddles!
Option 2: Side Leg Lift Series
(20 minutes)
This workout begins with a series of awesome and effective butt exercises to prepare, strengthen and engage the specific gluteal muscles that unlock your middle splits. You then focus on deepening and lengthening your middles with a progressive hip-opening exercise from standing that takes you gently down to the floor to the flattest middle split of your dreams!
In this lesson, Kristina will guide you through 2 twenty-minute shoulder workouts designed to stretch and strengthen the shoulders and surrounding, supportive muscles.
Option 1: External Rotation Series
(20 minutes)
This shoulder workout concentrates on strengthening and lengthening the external rotator muscles of the shoulders. These muscles are vital to health shoulder movement and particularly important to accessing that overhead reach back in needle scale, not to mention Scorpion and Pagoda shapes on the silks.
Option 2: Pulses Series
(20 minutes)
This shoulder workout utilizes bodyweight (no bands) and high repetition pulses to again focus on the external rotation of the shoulder and surrounding supportive muscles.
An incredibly effective series, after completing this workout you will find your shoulders singing with flexibility and mobility!
Increasing spinal flexiblity is not out of reach regardless of your age, gender or muscle composition!
In this 40-minute stand-alone workout, Kristina will take you through a full-body stretch that incorporates the hip flexors, hamstrings, shoulders and culminates with back bending.
It is essential to properly warm up the hip flexors and shoulders before doing backbends, then learn to find your full range of motion in each part of the spine isolating the upper, middle and lower back. This will keep your spine safe and healthy and make your backbend deeper.
In this bonus module Brett, Rachel and Lena will be demonstrating a number of aerial poses and tricks on the silks that most of you will find familiar. Although you may be doing these skills already you may not be aware of the muscles you are using and how you can do them more effectively (better and bendier) and that is what Kristina is here for! She will be breaking down the mechanics of each move and giving you a variety of exercises that you can do at home to improve your execution on the silks.
Poses/tricks include:
In this ‘hurts so good’ bonus module, Kristina will guide you through a hip and shoulder self massage regime using a ‘Pinkie Ball’ that will leave your tough aerial muscles released, soothed and lengthened.
The Pinkie Ball (you may also use a tennis ball) works to release tense muscles and breakdown the body’s fascia, the thin sheath of fibrous tissue enclosing the muscle.
Allow yourself at least twenty minutes for this guided self-massage, ideally on a rest or low workout day or at the end of your workout. Be sure to find a safe, relaxing environment to partake where you won’t be disturbed during your own private Myofascial Release Party.
You are a strong, fit and motivated aerial student who struggles to find the time to really stretch amongst all that aerial training!
You are an in-demand aerialist who knows how to show off her strengths but secretly dreams of a bendier back and over-the-top over splits!
You spend your days coaching others and have a hard time carving out the time for your own flexibility practice, let alone make it to a flexibility class!
Ultimately, If you are serious about improving your flexibility in a safe, effective and efficient way, then The Busy, Bendy Aerialist is for you!
“I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this program! It is quick enough for me to do when I only have half an hour in the afternoon and the results I have seen so far from only doing it 3 times a week have been fantastic!”
“The (BBA) flexibility adventure is going great so far. I’ve been in circus for a long time, but never worked specifically on really improving my backbend, straddle, or middle split – I really am enjoying the process and the course material so thank you guys again for sharing this with us.”
“Within the first 3 weeks of consistently doing the modules my upper back flexibility and shoulder range of motion have improved dramatically. I do a happy dance each time I reach a personal goal (squared splits, wider straddle, smooth arched back bend) and I know that the knowledge and physical improvements I have experienced in the BBA program will help keep me in the air for years!”
“I am LOVING the BBA! I have been successfully performing my Specialty Pole Act for 8 years BUT I had grown stagnant with my flexibility and now I know why! I LOVE how it feels to stretch now! Instead of feeling drained afterwards, I feel energized, worked out, and my body feels HEALTHY. I am excited to get back into my contortion forearm stands with more ease and balance and I am hoping to get to Catch Ankles and Pretzel/Chest Stand in the coming months (something my “pole shoulders” never allowed me to achieve before!) Thanks so much for this offering!”

I am interested in taking The Busy Bendy Aerialist but I don't have contortion experience, just regular stretching that I do in aerial class, is this course right for me?
Yes! You don’t need to have contortion experience to take The Busy Bendy Aerialist, progressions and alternative stretches are frequently demonstrated throughout the course and advanced contortion moves such as Chest Stands and Ankle Catches are not required.
We do recommend that students are comfortable with splits, straddles (they don’t need to be flat to the ground, yet!) and bridges before registering for BBA.
What if I have questions as I work through the course? How do I get help?
We are here to answer any of your technical questions via email. The Busy Bendy Aerialist also has a private Facebook page where you can ask questions, post training videos and get support from BBA experts as well as the community as a whole.
